Passport Day in Farmington Hills

The City of Farmington Hills is participating in “Passport Day in the USA” on Saturday, April 9, 9 a.m. to noon, at the City Treasurer’s Office located in City Hall at 31555 Eleven Mile Road.

At the “Passport Day in the USA” event, initiated by the National Passport Information Center, passport acceptance agencies across the country will be open to process passport applications.  The convenient Saturday hours will make the application process easier for Farmington Hills residents who can’t make it to City Hall during regular business hours.

All U.S. citizens, including children, must present a passport or other approved travel document when entering the United States by air. As of June 1, 2009, U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry are required to have a U.S. passport, a passport card or other document that complies with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.

As a Passport Acceptance Facility, the City does not issue passports but accepts passport applications and forwards them to a Federal passport agency for processing.  The processing time is currently between four and six weeks.

Please bring the following required items:

  • Completed application (we have forms for you to complete)
  • Original birth certificate (with raised seal)
  • One 2” X 2” head/shoulders photo
  • Driver’s license or State ID (or other proof of identity as accepted by the passport agency)
  • Two checks or money orders (one payable to the U.S. Department of State and one payable to the City of Farmington Hills for execution fees)

Children under the age of 16 who have an expired passport and need to re-apply for a new passport are required to submit both their expired passport and original birth certificate.  Consent from both parents is required for children under the age of 16.  All minor children are required to appear in person when applying for a passport.

The fees for a passport include:

  • $110 Passport Processing Fee (check payable to the U.S. Department of State) for applicant 16 years of age or older (10-year passport).
  • $80 Passport Processing Fee (check payable to the U.S. Department of State) for applicant 15 years of age or younger (5-year passport).
  • $25 Execution Fee per application (check payable to the City of Farmington Hills).  The execution fee is the same at all passport acceptance facilities.

Please note that the City will not be able to process expedited passports during this event.
