Farmington Area Mayors' Youth Council, Website Win State Honors

The organization and its website are honored by the Michigan Parks and Recreation Association.

The Michigan Parks and Recreation Association (MRPA) recognized the Farmington Hills/Farmington Mayors’ Youth Council and its website with awards at the 2012 MRPA Youth Symposium held recently in Tustin, MI.

MRPA is a statewide non-profit association representing the parks and recreation industry. 

The Mayors’ Youth Council received the 2012 Most Outstanding Youth Council award in recognition of their successful past year, which included increased community involvement, and the continuation and improvement of past programs including the MYC Talk Show and Reverse Mentoring, where teens teach senior citizens how to use the computer.

The Mayors’ Youth Council was also commended for the planning and research involved in the Eco-House project. The council plans to renovate a trailer and make it eco-friendly to serve as an example to the community.

MRPA also recognized the Mayors’ Youth Council website, F2H.org, as the best youth council website in the state. The website received the award for being informative, easy to use, and visually appealing to both teens and adults.

The Mayors’ Youth Council is open to any high school age youth in Farmington and Farmington Hills interested in helping to make their community a better place by sharing input and ideas about the future with community planners. The Council played a role in the creation of Club 2nd Floor at the , , the Great Farmington Hills Campout, and several other community events.
