Farmington Hills Officials Applaud State Interpreters Conference in Novi

Officials say the city relies on translators as they aim toward attracting international development.

For decades, the city of Farmington Hills has been situated in the middle of a vital economic area known for its support of business, business start-ups, and business investment from any and all sources.

Officials have reached out to investors from throughout the Midwest, across the country, and internationally.

“Such investment strengthens our economic future,” Teri Arbenowske, the city's Director of Economic Development, said. “And we welcome it.”

“The active presence of professional interpreters and translators is vital to the user-friendly nature of our area,” noted Hills Mayor Jerry Ellis, “We are very pleased that the Michigan Translators/Interpreters Network (MiTiN) will hold their second annual regional conference in our area.”

For more than 20 years, the MiTiN has helped foreign language professionals develop their skills and has educated the community in working with foreign language professionals.

The 2011 Regional Conference on Interpreting and Translation will be held on Oct. 1 at the in Novi. The conference is aimed at professional interpreters and translators; people looking to enter a career in interpreting or translating; and those who use interpreting and translation services in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

The 2010 MiTiN Regional Conference brought in more than 100 participants from eight states last year, and the enrollment this year is even greater, according to conference organizer Evelyn Villarruel.
