Farmington Hills Officials Name Pam Smith City Clerk

The former deputy is the first clerk sworn in in more than 25 years.

Farmington Hills officials voted, quickly and unanimously, Monday night to appoint deputy clerk Pam Smith to the position of city clerk.

The oath of office was administered by Judge Marla Parker in council chambers at . After being sworn, Smith thanked council members for their support of the clerk's office and of her candidacy for the clerk's position.

"I have a great office staff," she said. "I'm excited ... to continue my career here in Farmington Hills."

Mayor Jerry Ellis pointed out that Smith is the first city clerk sworn in in more than 25 years.

"She has been training for this job for 22 years," he said. "We think she is well qualified, and we're very, very excited to have her here."

. She first hired on with the city as a part-time recording secretary and took classes to further her career as she moved up in rank. Now certified as a municipal clerk, she is taking classes toward getting her master municipal clerk designation.

She replaces longtime city clerk Kathy Dornan, when she retired from attending City Council meetings.
