Farmington Officials Receive Budget

The city's proposed budget increases slightly, due to capital projects.

council members accepted the 2011-12 proposed budget in preparation for the end of the city's fiscal year, June 30.

At Monday's regular council meeting, City Manager Vincent Pastue presented the budget and announced that the next regular meeting of the council, May 2, and possibly May 15, would include budget workshops where residents can get more information about the city's spending plans. The proposed budget was accepted without comment.

Despite shrinking revenue from the state and other funding sources, this year's budget is slightly higher than last year's.

"This budget is $14.3 million," Pastue said. "Last year's was $13.9. There is a major project on this year's budget that we didn't have last year."

The project in question is the sewer work scheduled to be done in the Floral Park subdivision east of Orchard Lake Road this year. Workers will line aging sewer pipes, which is expected to avert back-ups and reduce the amount of time city crews spend clearing roots.
