Farmington Treasurer Delivers Good Budget News

The city will add to its fund balance for the third consecutive year, Chris Weber says.

For the third consecutive year, the City of Farmington's budget finished the fiscal year in June with a significant amount of black ink.

City treasurer Chris Webber said during Monday's council meeting that auditors had completed their review of 2012-2013 numbers and found revenues exceeded expenditures by more than $169,000. He said that was especially good news, given that officials anticipated a six-figure deficit.

Revenues ended up a little more than 1 percent greater than anticipated, Webber said, thanks to Michigan Tax Tribunal judgments and insurances proceeds from a Department of Public Works (DPW) accident.

But the city also spent less, with the delay of computer equipment purchases ($295,000 savings), and reduced expenditures in public safety, DPW and parks, 47th District Court and general government expenditures. The total savings was more than $500,000.
