Five Things You Should Know Today - June 27

It's the start of another week, and we've got a look at five things you should know about tonight's council meeting:

1. A roundabout study session

Hills officials will meet at 6 p.m. in the community room at City Hall, 11 Mile and Orchard Lake Roads, to talk about county issues, including a proposed roundabout at 14 Mile and Orchard Lake. The Road Commission for Oakland County has already placed roundabouts at 14 Mile and Farmington Roads in Farmington Hills, Maple (15 Mile) and Farmington and Maple and Drake in West Bloomfield.

2. A new city clerk

Pam Smith is expected to be appointed and sworn in as the new Farmington Hills city clerk at the beginning of the council's regular meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. .

3. A familiar face on the Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC)

Officials will be asked to consider reappointing Estralee Michaelson to the EPC. Michaelson asked to leave the group when her position as Safe Schools director with was eliminated this year. According to a memo issued by Mayor Jerry Ellis, she has decided to continue working with the commission.

4. Public comment

With a very light agenda, there will be plenty of time for anyone with a question, comment or grievance to come to the podium during the public comment portion of the council meeting. This is an opportunity to speak directly with your elected officials.

5. Post meeting closed session

In accordance with Michigan's Open Meetings Act, officials have announced they will enter a closed session following their regular meeting to discuss collective bargaining.
