Knol served on Farmington city council from 2003 to 2011. She cited increased work responsibilities and caring for her baby daughter when announcing her decision to step down after eight years.
Since then, Knol has put her Farmington home up for sale and moved to Farmington Hills, where she lives with her husband, political consultant Paul Welday, and daughter Natalie, who is 3.
Why she decided to run "I believe I have the right experience to tackle the issues the city's facing right now ... I think my work in Lansing also gives me a different perspective. I have knowledge of legislation as it's coming down and how it affects the city."
