Galvin Takes Seat on Farmington Council, Plans to 'Scale Back' Campaign

The candidate's name is still on the ballot, even though he was appointed to fill another term.

Bill Galvin's first meeting as a Farmington City Council member Monday night lasted less than 45 minutes.

The agenda included just a half-dozen actions, most of which were routine and led to very little discussion.

"This was a good orientation," said Galvin, who was appointed last week to fill the last two years of former council member Mike Wiggins' term.

His name is also on the ballot for Nov. 8's City Council election, and his appointment doesn't change the fact that he's running for one of three terms. Two candidates who receive the most votes will win four-year terms; the third-highest total wins a two-year seat.

"I have toned my campaign down in many regards since I was appointed," Galvin said after the meeting. He said he has a guarantee of two years on council, and other than that, voters should "be informed about all the candidates."

Galvin is keeping a commitment to host a campaign event at in downtown Farmington on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m., although the focus has changed to a "meet the new councilman" theme. The public is invited, and there is no cost to attend.

"I wanted to do this so I could continue to support them," Galvin said.
