Grove Street Won't Open for Downtown Farmington Founders Festival

Coordinating work with renovations at The Groves shopping center delays construction on the streetscape project.

Progress on the Grove Street reconstruction and streetscape project in downtown Farmington has slowed a bit, and the road won't be open in time for the Downtown Farmington Founders Festival July 19-20.

City manager Vince Pastue on Monday attributed the delay to issues around coordinating with renovations at The Groves shopping center. The project also broke ground later than officials had hoped, because of a delay in paperwork for a property transfer between the City of Farmington and Manifold Ventures, which owns The Groves.

Crews have removed concrete on Grove, from Grand River to Orchard Street, as well as a parking lot on the west side of the The Groves, and are installing an asphalt street with a boulevard and on-street parking, stamped concrete sidewalks and a look similar to the existing downtown Farmington streetscape.

"We're not going to open it up for Founders Festival whether it's ready or not," Pastue said, "but they'll make a lot of progress between now and then."
