Hills Celebrates Arbor Day

City manager Steve Brock goes green – literally – to emphasize city's environmental efforts.

City manager Steve Brock showed up at Friday's Arbor Day tree planting ceremony Friday looking a little green around the gills – literally.

City employees and officials gathered near the Friday, to plant a white pine, Michigan's state tree. Holding the ceremony is a component in the by the Arbor Day Foundation, the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

Brock said he donned a green mask and coveralls for an earlier presentation that was part of a Michigan Municipal League competition. Cities present projects that can be duplicated by others. Hills staff members presented the city's environmental activities, encouraging other communities to look at going greener, he said.
