Islamic Cultural Association Moves Ahead with Eagle Elementary Purchase

The Franklin-based organization and Farmington Public Schools have 30 days to close the sale.

(FPS) officials said today that the Islamic Cultural Association (ICA) in Franklin will move forward with the purchase of Eagle Elementary School in West Bloomfield.

After a two-week delay to deal with concerns from a third-party title company, ICA on Monday sent an additional $30,000 deposit, required as the next step in the process. The two parties now have 30 days to close the sale. The closing date will be Nov. 30.

, school board members approved an agreement to extend the sale process two weeks, to resolve issues related to a lawsuit over the sale. District residents Eugene Greenstein of Farmington Hills and Melvin C. Sternfeld of West Bloomfield , after to approve the sale.

The plaintiffs claim they would be negatively affected because they live near the property, and that stopping the sale would allow Sternfeld, a real estate broker, and his clients to bid on the property., but .

ICA had 120 days from the acceptance of their offer to determine whether the purchase is in their best interests, and that deadline was extended to the end of October.

West Bloomfield Township will ultimately review any building plans. Senior Planner Sara Roediger said no plans have been submitted, but the planning department was in touch with ICA's architects and engineers about a month ago.
