Oakland County Redistricting Law Loses Another Court Battle

The Michigan Court of Appeals rules the act required a two-thirds majority in the state legislature.

A law that would affect redistricting in Oakland County has lost another legal battle.

The Oakland Press reported today that the Michigan Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling that strikes down a law allowing the Republican-controlled county board of commissioners to redraw Oakland County districts and reduce the number of commissioners. 

An Ingham County judge ruled last month that the law was unconstitutional, because it would require voters to pay for the second redistricting and the review  the May 15 candidate filing deadline.
