Oakland County Republicans Issue Reward for Stolen Campaign Signs

At least one incident of stolen signs has occurred in Farmington Hills, but enough have been reported county-wide that the party has gotten serious about making violators accountable.

The Oakland County Republican Party recently issued a reward of $100 to $500 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone stealing Republican candidate campaign sings from yards and street corners.

The party initiated the reward late last month after supporters and volunteers reported "thousands of lawn signs being stolen," according to a Facebook Page established by the party. The reward will remain active through election day Nov. 6, and the amount of the reward will be determined by local party officials.

A resident on Crompton Circle called Farmington Hills police on Oct. 17 to report the theft of two political campaign signs for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra. According to the report, the signs had been posted in a grassy, common area in front of the home.

The reward sparked an interesting debate on the Facebook Page.

"I had my Romney-Ryan sign taken from my front lawn last Friday night and found it in the street three houses away. Of course, I live in the bastion of liberalism," lamented Chuck Batcheller, of Huntington Woods.

"I love that people are still making this a partisan issue as if only one party would reduce themselves to such a petty crime," wrote Jennifer Pennifer.
