Peters to Host Events in Farmington Hills Next Week

The Ninth District congressman will meet with constituents at the Costick Center and Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge.

U.S. Rep. Gary Peters (D-9th District) will host two events next week to share information about consumer protection and senior issues.

On Presidents Day, Feb. 20, from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m., Peters and officials from the newly formed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will speak at . Residents will learn how this new federal agency helps families deal with unfair or abusive credit card, mortgage or banking practices.

Participants will include Zixta Martinez, Assistant Director for Community Affairs from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and representatives from local agencies that assist Michigan residents with financial matters. After a brief panel discussion, the forum will open to a question and answer period.

Peters will host a public forum for seniors at the  in Farmington Hills on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., to hear from residents on issues that are important to them. Peters will make brief remarks on his efforts to help strengthen our local economy, as well as his work to protect Social Security and Medicare. Following these remarks, he will take questions from the audience.

Both events are free and open to the public.
