Prepare Your Pets for Emergencies April 24, 6:30 p.m., Costick Center, Farmington Hills

Local veterinarian Christian Ast will discuss how pets have been affected in recent disasters and will provide preparedness tips on how to increase your pet’s chances for survival.

HazMat Day May 11, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge campus, Farmington Hills

A variety of common household items will be accepted including oil-based paints, batteries, automotive fluids, pesticides, expired medications, aerosols, CFL bulbs, mercury, propane, and more. Television sets and computers are accepted, and up to 100 pounds of paper may be brought for shredding.
