The Week Ahead: City Council, Diversity Dialogues, Snyder Visit

Farmington officials will take a van tour of the proposed Grand River Corridor Improvement area.

Government events serve as bookends for this week's activities, starting with a Farmington City Council meeting Monday and ending with a visit from Gov. Rick Snyder on Friday.

members were to tour the proposed Grand River Corridor Improvement Authority (CIA) area Monday during their 6 p.m. special meeting. At 7 p.m., they were to take up their regular agenda, which included a public hearing on the River Glen special assessment and the following resolutions:

  • To adopt "Complete Street" principles for road construction
  • To support youth suicide prevention initiatives
  • To provide notice that the council intnds to establish the Grand River CIA.

Officials will also were to consider an interlocal agreement for animal control services.

Also at 7 p.m. Monday, parents were invited to a free at . Facilitated by Naomi Khalil, director of instructional equity for , the evening planned to explore the impact that personal backgrounds and experiences have on individuals' attitudes toward others and how these attitudes affect our children.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, a group of concerned officials and citizens will meet at the community room to discuss prevention of youth suicide. Hills officials passed a resolution at their last meeting recognizing "youth suicide as a serious state and local problem" and supporting efforts to increase education and awareness through prevention programs, intervention initiatives, literature, hotlines and peer support. Anyone interested in helping is invited to attend.
