The Week Ahead: Council, Fashion Show, Depression Town Hall

A forum Wednesday will focus on coping with depression.

Local volunteers concerned over an apparent rise in depression and mental health issues have organized a free town hall forum, “Recognizing and Overcoming Depression,” from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday in the .

The Commission on Children, Youth and Families started work on the Town Hall after Chief Chuck Nebus raised concerns over a cluster of 13 youth suicide attempts and threats last year. He told the commission that the department responds to more than 200 calls each year that result in a commitment for mental health treatment.

The commission's goal is to provide information about how to recognize and deal with depression and to raise awareness about community resources.
