The Week Ahead: Councils Meet, Dr. Paws Training and More

City Councils in Farmington and Farmington Hills meet Monday to talk about the Grand River corridor and about suicide prevention.

and city officials will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Farmington City Hall to hear a presentation on a Grand River corridor grant and to discuss a youth suicide prevention initiative.

A representative from the Land Information Access Association will report on the progress of a Partnerships for Change grant to study a joint Corridor Improvement Authority along Grand River Avenue, from Eight Mile Road to Mayfield.

In a separate issue, Hills officials approved a resolution Feb. 28 that recognizes "youth suicide as a serious state and local problem" and that supports public education efforts. Council members Nancy Bates, Randy Bruce and Ken Massey have spearheaded efforts to increase awareness of youth suicide. Last spring, Farmington Hills police responded to 13 calls that involved teens who threatened suicide or who harmed themselves.

After the joint study session, Farmington officials will take up their special meeting agenda, which will include interviews with Downtown Development Authority members up for reappointment.
