Alameda Students Raise Funds With Trike-A-Thon

A gloomy day didn't dampen anyone's spirits, as children raced around the gym to support the school's PTA activities.

Gloomy weather may have driven riders indoors for Alameda Early Childhood Center's Trike-a-Thon fundraiser Wednesday, but it didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits.

Parents clapped and cheered as children rode their decorated bikes and trikes around a circular "track" set up in the Farmington Hills school's gymnasium, raising thousands of dollars for Parent Teacher Association (PTA) activities throughout the year. Parent volunteer Bridget Millar said last year's Trike-A-Thon raised more than $9,000.

The PTA sponsors a number of family activities, including an ice cream social, "family night" music and magic programs, craft nights and a movie matinee at Emagine theater in Novi.

"We try to make everything family-oriented, so the parents can meet other parents," Millar said.
