UPDATED: Continued Wind Chill Advisory Closes Farmington Schools Wednesday
Wood Creek and Longacre elementary schools have had building-related closures this year and have already looked into how students will make up lost time.
With a forecast of -22 degree wind chill, Farmington Public Schools (FPS) officials have decided to cancel classes Wednesday.
UPDATE: Mercy High School, St. Fabian and Our Lady of Sorrows elementary schools will also be closed Wednesday.
This marks the seventh weather-related FPS closure since classes resumed Jan. 2, after winter break. District spokesperson Diane Bauman said in a text message that she will provide an update Wednesday about what the latest closure means for the school calendar.
Wood Creek Elementary families received a list serv message Tuesday that noted the weather-related closings and a 3-day power outage in November will result in minor adjustments to the school schedule to make up the time lost. A Longacre Elementary School list serv indicated that school officials were exploring options to make up a deficit; that school was also closed for two days in November due to a building issue.
According to the National Weather Service, a wind chill advisory remains in effect through 10 a.m. Wednesday.
