National Trends and Deterrent Strategies in Substance Abuse

Sara Lambert, a rehabilitation therapist and Scott Masi a behavioral health referral specialist, from the Brighton Center for Recovery, will provide information related to the evolving environmental, social and economic exposure of substance abuse.

Masi will discuss the national trends related to drugs of abuse, including prescription drugs, synthetic drugs such as K2 and bath salts, opiates and narcotics and the fundamentals of the disease model of addiction.  Lambert will identify the stages of change within the treatment and addiction model and the ways not only professionals, but family and peers can help those with addictions.

The seminar is free to the general public, if pre-registered by June 14, 2012. Two continuing education credits will be available for members of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for a $40 fee (if registered on or before June 14). There is a $50 fee for those who register after June 14, or for walk-in registrants.  Register online at http://www.hmsanet.com/hmsa-training-institute/. Validated parking will be available in the Millennium Garage at 432 W. Congress, Detroit.
