Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED

Knowing the appropriate actions to take in an emergency is critical in saving lives. This comprehensive course follows the latest CPR and emergency cardiovascular care guidelines. Students will learn how to recognize an emergency, act appropriately, and sustain life until professional help arrives. Topics range from basic first aid to dealing with cardiac emergencies.

Topics include:

  • First Aid segments
    • Taking action in an emergency
    • Bleeding and wound care
    • Shock
    • Burns
    • Serious injuries
    • Bone, joint, and muscle injuries
    • Sudden illness
    • Poisoning
    • Heat and cold emergencies
    • Rescuing and moving victims
    • Preventing disease transmission
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) segments
    • CPR segment teaches the principles of basic life support, rescue breathing, and how to manage a choking victim
    • AED portion of the course details key operating characteristics of an automated external defibrillator

Upon successful course completion, participants are issued two (2) certifications from the National Safety Council: Standard First Aid valid for three (3) years and Adult/Child/Infant CPR & AED valid for two (2) years.

Completion of the full course meets OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.151(b) for emergency care in the workplace and the Michigan Department of Education requirement for teacher certification.
