Event Helps Prepare Eighth Graders for High School

This Pledge for Success kick-off offers guest speakers, raffle prizes and information for students and parents.

Eighth grade students and their parents are invited to a special event called "Your Success Starts Today" on Tuesday, March 1, 6-8:30 p.m. at - J Building in Farmington Hills.

Designed to kick off the Pledge for Success initiative, which is supported by city, school, business and community groups, this event will feature a resource fair, celebrity speakers, raffle prizes and presentations on topics like what high school is really like, online career planning tools and paying for college.

Guest speakers will include WDIV-Channel 4 weatherman Paul Gross, State Rep. Vicki Barnett (D-Farmington Hills) and former professional athlete Mill Coleman. Students, parents and community members will be asked to take education-related pledges:

Students: "I pledge to believe in myself and to work hard and excel at my studies. I will be on a successful path to a career and a fulfilling life."

Parents: "I pledge to believe in my child. I will be committed to the academic and career success of my child and treat knowledge as a priority in our home."

Community: "I pledge to work with others to make Farmington/Farmington Hills the learning community."
