Farmington Hills 12-Year-Old Competes in Pitch, Hit, Run

Moya Jones finishes among the top three young athletes in the state.

Moya Jones, 12, who has twice taken home a turkey from the Costick Center's annual Turkey Shoot, traveled to Comerica Park June 22 to compete in the state finals for the Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run contest.

On May 4, Moya became one of more than 600,000 kids ages 7-14 competing within their gender and age groups in local events across the country. Two days later, she received word that she had advanced to the sectional competition, which was held June 1 at Eastern Michigan University's Oestrike Field. There, her scores were reset to zero, and she competed against other 11- and 12-year-old girls.

Moya was among three young athletes in the Detroit Tigers' market area who advanced to the June 22 event. She finished in third place and is already starting to prepare for next year's competition.
