Farmington Rotary Club Awards Ellis Scholarships

The club honors six finalists and hands out three $2,000 scholarships.

For the 27th year, the Farmington Rotary Club has recognized six Farmington/Farmington Hills high school seniors.

Parents, grandparents, high school counselors, school administrators and the Farmington Rotary Club celebrated with a lunch June 7 at the in Farmington Hills.

Six finalists – Xhilda Xhemali, Lydia Miller,  Avni Desai, Amanda Harris, Makayla McCoskey and Rachel Leider – were recognized, and the club awarded a $2,000 James Ellis Scholarship to Harris, Miller and McCoskey.

The awards honor the memory of James Ellis, long-time Farmington Rotary Club members. Students are selected for their academic achievements, school and community involvement and volunteerism. In the beginning, one scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was given to one of three applicants. The program is supported by the Ellis family and Farmington Rotary.
