Farmington School Officials Hire Property Sale Consultant

Great Northern Consulting will help the district market and sell four vacant parcels and the Maxfield Training Center.

Farmington school board members on Tuesday hired Ann Arbor-based Great Northern Consulting to help them sell five district-owned properties in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

The district in June received four proposals for consulting services on these properties:

  • 32600 Flanders, Farmington (former Flanders Elementary)
  • 29040 Shiawassee, Farmington Hills (former William Grace Elementary)
  • 34275 Oak Forest, Farmington Hills (former Wooddale Elementary)
  • 28500 Oakcrest, Farmington Hills (former Fairview Early Childhood Education Center)
  • 33000 Thomas, Farmington (Maxfield Training Center)
Facilities director Jon Riebe said Great Northern Consulting has a "solid background", and specializes in school properties, having completed successful sales in other districts. "Their approach will provide tranparency" in the process, he added.

Riebe said he expected the Flanders and Maxfield Training Center properties to be marked first, because the district has had the most interest in those properties.

According to documents, the scope of work includes determining the market value of the properties, marketing and meeting with qualified purchasers. The company will bill the district on an hourly basis, at $160 per hour for business principal time and $100 for support staff time.

Request for proposals should be ready in October and closing on properties could come six to eight months after selection of qualified purchasers early in 2014.
