Farmington Schools Superintendent to Retire in 2014

Farmington Public Schools' Superintendent Susan Zurvalec announced Tuesday that she will be retiring from the school district. 

Zurvalec, who has served in the post for nine years, will finish out the school year. Her retirement is effective July 1, 2014.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to have been your Superintendent these past nine years," she said in a press release issued Tuesday morning. "This has been, and will continue to be, a great place to work and learn because of the dedicated staff, outstanding students and committed families that make up Farmington Public Schools."

Zurvalec said her husband, Dave, has been retired for five years, and "we
look forward to this next phase in our lives; enjoying sunsets at our cottage on Lake Huron, traveling and spending more time with friends and loved ones. While I am excited about this new phase, I know I will greatly miss my Farmington family."

The district's Board of Education will create a Succession Planning Committee that will recommend a process for filling the position. 

"Sue has been a terrific superintendent, a great leader, a dedicated and hardworking employee but most importantly, a wonderful person," board president Howard Wallach said. "Sue is a good friend whom we will miss greatly. We wish her and her family all the best in this new chapter in their lives."
