Farmington Schools Will Tap Search Firm to Replace Zurvalec

Officials will review applications and appoint a company that will be expected to engage district staff and the community in the search process.

Farmington Public Schools officials have put out a call to find a search firm that will help recruit a replacement for retiring superintendent Susan Zurvalec.

After serving nine years, Zurvalec announced in December that she will retire on July 1, 2014.

According to a district press release, proposals will be accepted through noon on Jan. 31. Board members expect to choose a candidate by April 29, 2014 with a start date for the new superintendent as close to July 1, 2014 as possible.

Officials have set a special meeting Feb. 10, 6 p.m., to review search firm applications; they will make a final decision during their Feb. 11, 7:30 p.m., meeting.

Both meetings will be held at the Schulman Administrative Center, 32500 Shiawassee in Farmington.

According to the release, the selected search firm will be expected to meet with staff and residents in March to talk about the desired characteristics of the next superintendent. Interviews will be held in public and cablecast on TV-10 on April 16 and 17, with the finalist interviews expected on April 24.
