Farmington Youth Assistance Honors Student Volunteers for 4,000+ Hours of Service

The middle school and high school students were honored for completing at least 100 hours of charitable work.

Farmington Youth Assistance (FYA) last week honored 26 middle and high school students from Farmington and Farmington Hills for their charitable contributions.

The 27th annual celebration of youth volunteers, held at in Farmington Hills, recognized the students for performing at least 100 hours of volunteer work not applied toward high school credit. The students’ collective community volunteering totaled more than 4,000 hours during the last year.

The FYA event also inspires students to continue service throughout their lives. Public safety officials, city council members, school officials, administrators and nominators are expected to attend to express their gratitude.

“It’s important to recognize these students’ contributions—all of which have taken place in their free time,” said Pam Lyle, FYA caseworker. “Each person has made an impact and we hope they will not only continue this good work, but spread the volunteer movement to their friends. These efforts go a long way in strengthening our community.”

After receiving nominations from schools, hospitals, churches and residents, FYA evaluated each student based on voluntary service to an individual or organization in the community. Length and quality of commitment and initiative were considered.
