Foundation Hands Out $40K for Farmington Area Education Projects

The Farmington/Farmington Hills Education Foundation awards proceeds from its 'A Toast to Education' fundraiser.

The Farmington/Farmington Hills Education Foundation has awarded $40,000 in grants with proceeds from its “A Toast to Education” fundraiser and private donations.

Requests totaling more than $85,000 were submitted, and grants were awarded to teacher-submitted projects and initiatives ranging from expanding the Harrison High School/ Beechview Elementary Green Team Garden to launching the Power Fiddle Club and Farmington FIT Falcons.  

Grants partnering with school groups and community organizations include KickstART Farmington’s Greater Farmington Area Film Festival, “Be the Solution Recycling,” and the Farmington/Farmington Hills Pledge for Success Committee’s “Your Success Starts Today” event to motivate and prepare eighth grade students for high school and beyond.

Technology purchases include the support of classroom learning initiatives using tablets, document cameras and MP3 players. 

Additional projects and programs funded by mini and collaborative grants include:

  • Middle school and High school Japanese technology integration
  • Elementary parent-led enrichment program support
  • Elementary literacy technology integration
  • Harrison High School marketing student project
  • Farmington High School Communications Camp
  • Elementary Leader in Me program training
  • Elementary and high school music technology integration
  • “It’s How We Roll” bowling program for special needs students

District initiatives receiving major project grants of up to $5,000 include:
  • One School, One Book elementary literacy program
  • Eisenhower Dance middle and high school program
  • Brass Blowout event support
“The Education Foundation is honored to allocate funds to so many worthy programs,” said David Roggenkamp, chair and grant committee member. “Foundation funds are helping our students get interesting and innovative educational opportunities that might not otherwise be available. It is vitally important for the Education Foundation to continue to offer innovation grants to our teachers, staff and community members to enhance the curriculum and provide additional enrichment programs for the students to participate in.”
