Harrison High Principal Aaron Johnson Leaves for Grosse Pointe Schools

Farmington school officials say they will undertake a search for Johnson's replacement with involvement from staff, students and parents.

When students start school this fall, they'll likely have a new principal. 

This afternoon, announced that current principal Aaron Johnson has accepted the position of Secondary Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment and Technology with the Grosse Pointe Public School District.

Johnson was hired as an Assistant Principal at in 2005 and took the Harrison post in 2008.

"Aaron has done an outstanding job leading Harrison High School and he will be sorely missed by me, the staff and students," Supt. Susan Zurvalec said. "We are sad to see him leaving Harrison, but we are excited for him as he starts a new phase in his career."

In a statement to the Harrison community sent out through the district's list serv this afternoon, Johnson wrote: "I felt like I have grown up here as a professional. I have made many friendships with staff, parents, and community members. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Harrison community at making this school and this community a great one. I brag all of the time that this school and community is the best there is."

The district statement indicated that Johnson's last day will be June 30, but he will be available to spend time with the selected principal during the transition process. The District's search process, which is expected to begin soon, will involve all stakeholders including staff, students and parents.
