Hillside Students Raise $2,500 for Leukemia, Lymphoma Research

The Farmington Hills school contributes more than $6,000 over two years to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The students and staff at Hillside Elementary School last week donated more than $2,500 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) through their annual Pasta for Pennies campaign.

“In just two years, Hillside has contributed over $6,000 to fight leukemia and lymphoma, and we couldn’t be happier with the efforts of these little ones,” LLS campaign coordinator Katherine Aiken said.

Aiken and Brittany Aman, also with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, were on hand to receive the check from Ms. Burzynski’s second-grade class. The class raised the most funds in the school and earned an Olive Garden pasta lunch for their efforts. In addition, they were joined by Brielle Thomas, a kindergartener in Ms. Bresnihan’s class, who raised $98 in donations all on her own.

“We are so fortunate to have such a caring and thoughtful community here at Hillside. Our Hillside Huskies love the Pasta for Pennies drive and really get into looking for loose change to bring in for the cause,” said Stacy Buatti, who is the school's Parent Teacher Association President.

Hillside’s charitable efforts won’t stop; students and families from the school will join Principal Pam Green on a Relay for Life team at the local event on Saturday, May 18.
