Lanigan Elementary Helps in World Record Reading Attempt

The 500-plus students at the Farmington Hills school had a book read to them by their principal.

Lanigan Elementary students helped out with an attempt to break a world record Thursday, just by listening.

Principal Robert Kauffman read to them from Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney as part of "Read for the Record," an initiative to raise awareness about the importance of early education. Lanigan students, staff and even some parents were among millions around the country who had the book read to them.

The event is presented by Jumpstart, an organization that works to help children in low-income neighborhoods with literacy and language skills.
