Mr. Harrison to be Crowned Tonight

Student candidates raise funds for school activities.

Five students will compete Tuesday night for a plastic crown and the title of "Mr. Harrison."

The schoolwide fundraiser provides support for prom and other Student Council activities, said this year's organizer, Connor Rubin.

"It's sort of like a spoof beauty pageant," he said. "It's all about being funny."

Contestants compete in categories such as swimwear, Hawk wear, formal wear and talent. There's a round-by-round elimination; the two final candidates are judged based on a typical pageant question.

"Last year's question was, 'What would you do with a million dollars?' " Rubin said. "I don't remember my answer, but one contestant went off on a tangent about saving puppies. It was really just a lot of fun. The whole point was not to take yourself too seriously."

This year's judges are students Jenny Fernandez, who is the reigning Miss Farmington, Christina Dunkin and last year's winner, Will Mindroiu. Faculty representatives are John Herrington, head coach of the , Kristy Renaud, who teaches English, and Kevin Meisner, chemistry teacher and founder of the competition – and .

To get in on the fun, head to the Harrison High gymnasium at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Admission costs $5.
