OCC Board Approves $1.4M in Repairs at Orchard Ridge in Farmington Hills

The project is funded by a millage approved by Oakland County voters in 2010.

The Oakland Community College (OCC) Board of Trustees on March 20 approved $1,464,500 for electrical repairs and replacements in Buildings J, K and L at the in Farmington Hills. 

College authorities expect the work to be completed by the end of December 2012.

“These projects are absolutely essential to the smooth operation of the campus and the welfare of our students and staff. We are grateful to the citizens of Oakland County for voting the funds that make it possible to undertake these needed repairs,” OCC Chancellor Timothy R. Meyer said.

Funding for the projects comes from the revenue the college receives annually from an .8 mill special tax levy approved by Oakland County voters in 2010. The funds are largely earmarked for building restorations, technology upgrades, scholarships and the development of new programs.

With five campuses located throughout Oakland County, OCC is Michigan’s largest community college and the 25th largest in the nation. OCC offers degrees and certificates in more than 160 fields, including university transfer degrees in business, science and the liberal arts. Approximately 78,000 undergraduates attend OCC each year.
