Detroit News Honors Harrison's Coach Herrington
The long-time Hawks football coach is named a 'Michiganian of the Year'

Last fall, . He was for the Don Shula NFL Coach of the Year award.
And last month, Herrington was named one of the Detroit News' 2011 Michiganians of the Year.

According to a press release from , while attending Central Michigan University, Herrington was involved in athletics and thought about becoming a sportswriter. Nearly 50 years later, he has been interviewed by nearly every sportswriter in the state. With 376 wins, he has the second highest number of career victories among Michigan coaches.
Herrington starts his 42nd year at Harrison this fall; he is the only head football coach in the school's history. As a teacher, he has been educating students in social studies and history for 49 years, with a particular interest in the Civil War .

"It keeps me young," Herrington said of his long tenure. "I enjoy it."
