Farmington Area Cross Country Runners Compete in State Finals at MIS

Heather Smith of Mercy High School has the strongest overall finish among participants from Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Five runners from Farmington and Farmington Hills participated in today's Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Lower Peninsula Cross Country Finals.

senior Heather Smith had the strongest finish among the locals. She crossed the line with a time of 18:59.4, which was good for 36th place overall and 10th place among senior girls.

Victoria Irwin, 10th grade, - 19:04.0 - 42nd overall, 11th among sophomores

Jennifer Rogers, 10th grade, - 19:49.1 - 116th overall, 44th among sophomores

Gabby Deflorio, 12th grade, Farmington - 21:45.2 - 225th overall, 63rd among seniors

Competing in the Division 1 boys race, Drew Lindman, a Farmington High junior, finished with a time of 16:47.8, good for 122nd place overall and 43rd among all juniors.

Grosse Pointe South won the girls team title; Highland Milford took home the boys team title. Individual champions were Erin Finn of West Bloomfield, 17:22.6, and Garret Zuk of White Lake Lakeland, 15:21.2.

The 3.1-mile course began in the 2-mile race track's infield, and finished in the tri-oval near the start/finish line used for NASCAR races, according to MIS.

More than 1,900 student-athletes representing some 500 member schools took part in the finals, the largest annual gathering of high school athletes at a single site for an MHSAA event.
