Farmington Hills Harrison's Fialka Dominates in Consolation

The junior takes an 11-5 decision in day two of state wrestling competition.

junior Andrew Fialka dominated Rochester Adams junior Alex Potoniec in the early minutes of their consolation match in the 125-lb. weight category at today's Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) individual wrestling tournament.

Going into the third, Fialka was up 8-0. Potoniec hit a takedown in the the final round and scored a reversal, but it wasn't enough. Fialka advanced on a 11-5 decision.

"Soon as he hit a takedown early in the match, you could see his confidence was building," Hawks coach Jim Stuef said.

Stuef said Fialka had wrestled Potoniec earlier this season and was actually nervous going into the match.

"He was a little worried because at counties he won with kind of a lucky move in that match," Stuef said.

Fialka fell yesterday on a 9-6 decision to Battle Creek Lakeview's Jesse Sum. He had a takedown with 40 seconds left to make it 7-5, then escaped to standing to make it 7-6, but Sum came back with a takedown in the final seconds to secure the win.
