High School Swimming: North Farmington Triumphs

The Raiders topped a field of six swim teams to win the Oakland Activities Association White Division championship Friday, at West Bloomfield High.

The Raiders racked up 545.5 points to take the title; finished in third place, with 431.5 points.

Bloomfield Hills Lahser's Knights placed 2nd, with 503 points; West Bloomfield finished 4th with 412 points, followed by the Rochester High Falcons, 390 points; and the Rochester Adams Highlanders, with 312 points.

“Our strength all year has been our depth,” North Farmington head coach Mike Harfoot said.  “When we have three solid swimmers for every event we’re in good shape.”

“It was really tight. Lahser gave us a scare, and West Bloomfield had a tremendous meet,” Harfoot added.

North senior Cameron Wasko, who was singled out for MVP honors, called the meet "amazing," and said, "I couldn’t think of a better way to end my senior year."

“We’re really lucky to have a great group of kids and coaches,” he said.  “We practice really hard, so we deserve this victory.”

After getting dunked in the pool, Harfoot scheduled practice at 10 a.m. Saturday for his swimmers who qualified for the state meet.

“It’s tough coming into a morning practice, but when you swim with kids as dedicated as myself, it’s well worth it,” Wasko said.
