North Farmington's Miller Loses in Wrestling Semifiinals

Detroit Catholic Central's Beazley edges Miller to earn spot in state final bout, while Kevin Miller heads to the consolation round.

AUBURN HILLS – North Farmington's Kevin Miller will have to settle for the consolation round after losing his semifinal bout Friday at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Miller dropped a 15-7 decision to Detroit Catholic Central senior Kevin Beazley, who will go on to wrestle in the 189 pound class for the state title at the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) individual tournament.

Earlier Friday, one takedown was enough to send Miller to the semifinals.

"I felt like all I needed was one point to win the match," Miller said.

He scored a takedown in the second round against Grand Haven senior Dakota Smith (189 lbs.) and spent the rest of the bout keeping Smith facedown on the mat. Unable to get to his feet, Smith lost a 4-2 decision.

"I just think my conditioning was better," Miller said. "I was able to keep battling while he gassed out in the second and third round."
