Farmington Hills Resident's Camp Returns with Hearts, Hands and Voices

Michael Burkhardt aims to fill the gap created by cuts to music programs in schools and churches.

Farmington Hills resident Michael Burkhardt is bringing Hearts, Hands and Voices summer camp back for a fourth year, with locations in Livonia and Grosse Pointe Farms.

Hearts, Hands and Voices gives children in grades 2-8, from all economic backgrounds to immerse themselves in worship arts and music. Sessions are held Aug. 6-9 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 375 Lothrop, Grosse Pointe Farms, and Aug. 13-16, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 30650 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia.

New this year, the camp offers an "Adavanced Track" for children who have been attending since its inception.

Burkhardt was invited to this area by a friend – a pastor at his church – four years ago, to work a week-long seminar. He told Patch last summer that he created the camp to fill the gap caused by cutbacks in music education in public schools and children’s programs at churches.
