Kristina Franchi Wins 2013 Miss Farmington Title

The third time was the charm for Farmington High grad Kristina Franchi, crowned Miss Farmington at the close of the 2013 pageant held Wednesday at the Farmington Civic Theater.

"I think I've changed and grown as a person so much over the past three years," she said during an afterglow at Page's Food & Spirits in Farmington. "I'm glad this was my year to win."

Franchi, who will be a freshman this fall at Oakland University, was a contestant in 2011 and 2012, when she was first runner-up. She was sponsored by Thayer-Rock Funeral Home and selected HAVEN, a nonprofit that helps victims of domestic violence, as her charity.

The Miss Farmington program, Franchi said, has helped her in many ways, but one in particular. She is pretty sure that sitting face to face with a potential employer will be much easier than answering questions while standing on a stage dressed in an evening gown and heels.

"I can definitely nail any job interview," she said.

Franchi's court includes first runner-up Emma Feeheley, a junior at Mercy High sponsored by Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, and second runner-up Lekha Mutyala, a junior at Farmington High sponsored by the Farmington-Farmington Hills Breakfast Optimist Club.

Margaret Norris, sponsored by Ilda's Salon Chic, won the Spirit of Miss Farmington award, given in honor of long-time pageant supporter and civic leader Dick Tupper. She was also the People's Choice winner, based on audience votes. Farmington city council member JoAnne McShane named Feeheley winner of the Mayor's Essay Award.

Grace Newlin, sponsored by Dennis Miller, DDS received the American Legion Groves-Walker Post Community Service Award, for her work in restoring the monument and garden in front of the post.

Mark Ziegler of Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home presented Michele Jackaki of Focal Point Photography in Farmington with the Walter E. Sundquist Humanitarian Award, recognizing her person and professional contributions to the community. Sundquist passed away a week before the pageant
