Lane, Road Closures Remain in Farmington Hills

While some projects are "substantially complete", crews are still working on major roads in and around the city.

The road construction season is winding down as several local projects are almost complete. But remaining road closures will affect your ability to get around town this month.

Here's a list of projects that are still underway:

Use an alternate route

Phase I is substantially complete, and traffic has been shifted to the north side of the road, with work on the south side. Paving of the base layer is underway in Phase II. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and under flag control when necessary.

Water main work is complete, storm sewer work is substantially complete and construction of the road is underway. Independence is open only to local traffic. All side streets with access to Grand River or Shiawassee will be closed to traffic at Independence. This project is scheduled for completion in late fall.

Eight Mile Road, Telegraph in Southfield to Grand River (Michigan Dept. of Transportation - MDOT)

Eight Mile will be kept open, with multiple lane closures and delays. Eastbound Eight Mile is now closed at Grand River, and MDOT has indicated this closure will remain in place until Sept. 10. The detour route directs all eastbound motorists to Grand River where they can use the first median turnaround to return to Eight Mile. Much of this project is scheduled for night and weekend work.

Orchard Lake Road, 13 Mile to 14 Mile, Resurfacing (Road Commission for Oakland County - RCOC)

Orchard Lake remains open but is reduced to one lane in each direction. Paving operations are scheduled to begin the weekend of Sept. 15.

Substantially complete

Northwestern Hwy., Orchard Lake Road to Beck in Southfield (MDOT)

Shoulder closures and intermittent lane closures will be required to complete the restoration and clean-up work. The weekend of Sept. 15, installation of pavement markings will require lane closures through the project limits. These closures will move as the work is completed.

Grand River, Haggerty to Novi Rd. in Novi (RCOC)

Work is substantially complete, all lanes are open and pavement markings are installed. Over the remaining weeks, the contractor will be performing irrigation repairs, cleaning up shoulders, and doing restoration of the final grade with grass or sod.

City subdivision projects

Holly Hill and Glenbrook

The final layer of pavement is being installed. Expect daytime road closures while the paving operation is underway. Access to properties will be maintained and closures removed at the end of each work day.

Springland and LaMuera

The final layer of pavement is being installed in Phase I. The large culvert located in Phase II on LaMuera is scheduled for removal and replacement next week. Roads will be open during construction but expect daytime closures. Access to properties will be maintained and closures removed at the end of each work day.
