After a day of blistering heat, a quick, strong storm blew through the Downtown Farmington Founders Festival at around 8:30 p.m. Friday, drenching hundreds of attendees and leaving some booths damaged.
Festivities at the Walkers Tavern beer tent were in full swing when a strong wind briefly lifted the tent, Farmington Downtown Development Director Annette Knowles said. One person suffered a minor injury.
Along Farmington Road, Grand River and Oakland Street, a few tents were completely toppled, but many remained standing at around 9 p.m. as vendors dried merchandise and cleaned up. Inflatable rides near Riley Park were taken down before the storm hit; they are expected to be operational again on Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a chance of storms remains through Saturday at 8 a.m., then showers are possible through 1 p.m. The Founders Festival parade kicks off from Grand River and Power Road at 9:40 a.m.
