What's Open, Closed on Fourth of July in Farmington, Farmington Hills?

Government offices are closed, as are both library branches, on Thursday.

This week's Fourth of July holiday affects trash collection, mail service and more. Whether you're traveling or staying home, here's what you need to know: 

Trash pick-up delayed Thursday and Friday

Farmington and Farmington Hills customers who normally have trash and recyclables picked up on Thursday should put their bags and bins out on Friday instead. Friday's collection is delayed until Saturday. Collection goes on as usual Monday through Wednesday. 

Government offices closed

The City of Farmington and City of Farmington Hills municipal offices and the 47th District Court building will be closed on Thursday. Offices re-open on Friday. U.S. Post Office branches in Farmington and Farmington Hills will be closed on Thursday, but customers will have access to Automated Postal Centers. There will be no mail delivery on Thursday. 

Farmington Community Library closed

Both the Main Library and Farmington branch will be closed on Thursday and re-open at 10 a.m. on Friday. You can renew or reserve books, sign up for the summer reading program or download music via the new Freegal music service at farmlib.org

Summer concerts

There will be no Thursday concert at Heritage Park in Farmington Hills, but Rhythmz in Riley Park in Farmington goes on as usual, with Delta Twins performing. To get into the holiday spirit, take in Nardin Park United Methodist Church's Wednesdays @ 8 concert, which has a patriotic theme. 

Fill 'er up

AAA Michigan reports that average gas prices in the state are down 19 cents from last week. The website detroitgasprices.com reports the lowest price in the Farmington-Farmington Hills area Monday was $3.34 at the BP station, Grand River and Power, and the Valero at Grand River and Orchard Lake Road.
