Where Can I Buy Fireworks in Farmington and Farmington Hills?

Michigan law allows consumers to shoot off fireworks the day before, day of and day after the July 4th holiday.

The City of Farmington Hills offers a July 3 fireworks display at Founders Sports Park celebrating its 40th birthday, but for the second year, local residents can also set off Fourth of July fireworks in their own backyards.

A state law and city ordinances that went into effect last year allow consumer fireworks to be used on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, along with the days before and after each holiday.

Last week, Farmington Hills officials approved an emergency ordinance that restricts fireworks to be discharged between 8 a.m. and 12 a.m. on all those days, except New Year's Day, when fireworks may also be discharged between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. Approved on a 4-1 vote, the ordinance's emergency status means it will be in place for the Fourth of July holiday.

  • Do not hold fireworks by hand when lighting.

  • Do not approach a firework that does not go off. Because each firework is different, it is very difficult to put a timeline on how long to leave it before touching. Fireworks can be thoroughly soaked with water and discarded in the trash (not inside the house or garage) after there is no concern of a delayed ignition.
