Founders Days

Welcome to Founders Days!

The Founders Festival brings some proud days to our City and Community.  The festival is a chance to show off our heritage, our present day and provide a glimpse of our future.  Many tens of thousands of community members, guests and visitors will enjoy the crafts, shows, pageantry and revelry.

Last night, the Miss Farmington competition provided a terrific show at the Civic Theater. The program was a great start to a big week for Farmington.  Congratulations to our new Miss Farmington, Elena Pavlicas.  Congratulations to Elise Newcomer on concluding a fantastic year as our 2011 Miss Farmington. Elise has been a terrific leader and role model. And also congratulations to Farmington council member and former two term Mayor Joanne McShane, for her selection as the recipient of the Sundquist Humanitarian Award, which is well deserved.

The Pageant night is one part of many which make up a wonderful celebration in Farmington. A great amount of effort goes into the festival. The Downtown Development Authority team took over responsibility for the festival a few years ago and has fully incorporated it into their responsibilities. The event has grown in many ways since that time. You will see Annette Knowles, DDA Excutive Director, and Janet Bloom, Events Manager, throughout the week, hustling around downtown assuring the festival's success.

In fact, the entire employee team for the city becomes involved in some way to support the festival, Public Safety in managing the safety of our environment, Public Works providing the structure and pleasant environment; the Clerk’s office, the Treasurer’s office, everyone is engaged in some fashion or another.

And we have hundreds of volunteers supporting the event. We are a fortunate community to have the fully engaged support of so many who care and commit to help, to make this huge event a success. Much to be grateful for!
