Best Buy Donation to Buy Computers, Cameras

The $5,000 will support the Learn Earn and Play pilot for the After School Program.

A $5,000 donation from of Farmington Hills gives a boost to the City of Farmington Hills' After School Program.

Lomas Brown, former Lions football player has partnered with Best Buy and the After School Program on a pilot program called L.E.A.P. – Learn Earn and Play – with a group of 7th and 8th grade youth. The focus of the program is to provide a setting where students spend time learning subjects such as math, science, and reading, then play sports and learn the importance of proper stretching and conditioning. 

Brown and the Best Buy team shared information about L.E.A.P. at the May 25 Xemplar Club meeting at in Farmington. Best Buy volunteers, how helped organize the pilot program, have continued to visit, play basketball and hang out with the kids.

The $5,000 donation will go towards new computers in the After School Program's Learning Center at the in Farmington Hills, and the purchase of cameras to teach the youth how to produce their own video creations. For more information call Youth and Family Services, 248-473-1841.
