Farmington-Farmington Hills Optimists Raise Funds with Golf Outing

The 21st Orrie Donnelly golf outing raises funds the club uses to benefit local youth all year-round.

Farmington-Farmington Hills Optimist Club expects to raise more than $8,000 on Aug. 2, during the organization's biggest event of the year: the 21st Annual Orrie Donnelly Golf Outing.

Held at the , this less formal "scramble" format offers 18 holes of golf with a cart, breakfast, lunch and dinner for just $100. Dinner-only tickets are also available, at $25. Prizes will be offered for lowest score, highest score, closest to the pin and longest drive. There'll be a putting contest and a "skins" game.

The local Optimist Club is part of Optimists International, but all of its activities are geared to benefit local youth. The club has created Junior Optimist clubs in Farmington public and private schools, and supports programs and organizations that include Student Assistance Program, Camp Casey, Farmington Public Schools Turnaround Awards, Friends of the , , Call to Action Coalition, Project F.I.S.H. youth fishing program, Paws with a Cause and many more. The club also hosts an oratorical contest and leadership awards.
